Event Pics: "The Art of Discovery" at Johnson County Library

I meant to post this Monday, but I've had a busy week so you get it today instead!

"The Art Of Discovery" Steampunk Art Exhibit opened up last Saturday. I loved seeing all the pieces contributed and it was great to be part of it! Here's some images of the exhibit as well as several of the artists involved (in costume!):

Me with my piece. I opted for a 20s era style instead of the Victorian-esque look.

The exhibit will be up at the Johnson County Library until it is moved to the Blue Valley Library starting July 19, and the Shawnee Library starting August 9. You can see it any time during regular library hours. There are also steampunk-related workshops being offered.

"The Art of Discovery" Steampunk Exhibit Opens this Weekend at Johnson County Library

This weekend,"The Art of Discovery," a steampunk exhibit that I'm pleased to be part of is opening at the Johnson County Library. The opening event will be Saturday, June 14th from 10 am - 2 pm, and the library will be offering other workshops to go along with it as the summer goes on.

From the library's website:
Responding to the steampunk slogan “What the past would look like if the future had happened sooner,” 21 regional and national creators join forces to explore the intersections of science fiction and fantasy through the visual arts. Artists include: Vaska Basham, Susan Beatrice, Doug Bell, Ruth Cohen, James Conner, Ed Downes, Jullian Erickson, May Evans, Ron James, Randall Jessee, Katie Kaufman, Tom Krekow, Stephanie Dal Porto, Brandon Schnur, Joanna Shindler, Bob Spangler, Ptr Sponseller, Julie Summa, Bryan Timmins, Jenna Tomlin and Thomas Willeford.

I'm displaying a piece you might recognize if you saw the steampunk exhibit at Tea Drops a while back. Henry and I will be at the opening event as long as he'll put up with it (which might not be that long), and I'll be debuting a new Steampunk-inspired costume.

Hope to see you there!

DIY Body Lotion

I finally figured out a recipe for body lotion that I like, both for how it feels and for how simple it is to make.

I used the above ingredients, adding the jojoba oil and the essential oil together first. Meanwhile I make the coconut oil liquid by placing the oil in a glass measuring cup, and putting the cup in a bowl of boiling hot water from my electric kettle. Once the oil is liquified (it won't be very warm), I add it to the other ingredients and stir it up. Then I pop it in the fridge to solidify, and whip it around with a fork after it's firmed up.

My sister says this might not work so well in the summer, so we'll see if I stay with it. Right now I'm happy with it. :)
