Henry's First Snow Walk

Henry had his first walk in the snow this week. It was adorable to see how he sought out the snowy patches to hear the crunch of the snow, and how interested he was by the texture changes between the snow and the icier patches. I'm looking forward to the next snowfall so we can break in his snow pants!

Xmas Oraments Are Hanging Memories

One of the things that makes me feel most nostalgic around Christmas time is putting up the tree and looking at all the ornaments I've been given over the years. I love how each one brings its own memories with it. Whether they're from when I was a child...

...or since I've grown up, each one means something special, and I love pulling them out each December.

It's been a delight creating Henry's own ornament collection. He received several from his family last year, and his Nana has already hung some new ones on the tree for him this year.

What are some of your favorite holiday items?

I See a Purple Cat, a White Dog...

Lately Henry has been quite picky about what books he will and will not listen to. On the list of books he likes is Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See written by Bill Martin Jr. and illustrated by Eric Carle.

His two favorite characters in the book are the white dog and the purple cat. He often pets them and blows them kisses while we're reading the book to him, and sometimes he wants to go back to their pages to pet them s'more! So I decided that I painting of his two favorite animals from the book would just tickle him pink.

I've been working on it for a few weeks and recently finished it up. I showed him the painting when I was part-way through with the purple  cat and he smiled and waved, so I'm glad that the characters will be recognizable to him. Can't wait to see his face when he opens it up on Christmas Eve.

NaNoWriMo 2013 Wrap-Up (A Little Early)

I hope all my American readers had a lovely Thanksgiving yesterday. Ours was quite pleasant once Henry stopped yelling at my family members, silly boy. (Sometimes he freaks out a bit when people come over).

I didn't have time to work on my novel yesterday, so I sat down to catch up this morning. Long story short: I'm totally stoked because I just finished the second draft of my novel a whole day before the end of NaNoWriMo!

::does a happy dance::

I'm not satisfied with all of my language choices or the ending, but I can work on that for the next draft.

Henry Is a Little Person

Henry has been officially diagnosed with Russell-Silver Syndrome, which is a form of dwarfism that affects pre- and post-gestational growth and is associated with feeding disorders, speech delay, constipation, short stature and more. We've already been getting help with the feeding problems through prescriptions and OT, and on Wednesday Henry will start his speech therapy through First Steps. So we're already doing everything we need to do for him at this point, and we'll continue to follow up with specialists.

It is GREAT to finally have a definitive diagnosis and know what we're dealing with. I feel like a weight has been lifted off of me!

And I think it's funny that Matt and I prefer short people and now we have a very little person in our family. :)

Life, you crack me up!

SCRIBE + Children's Mercy

Henry goes to a Children's Mercy clinic once a week or so to visit an OT for his feeding disorder. I love the clinic because it is decorated by SCRIBE, a local graffiti artist, who, it turns out, is also the artist-in-residence at Children's Mercy! It's nice that the clinic we have to go to most often is the most colorful one! Check it out:
