Free Pussy Riot

Today I want to talk about an ongoing international human rights/freedom of speech incident involving an anonymous feminist Russian political performance group, Pussy Riot. Several members of this group were arrested because of a protest/performance lasting only a minute. They are threatened with up to 7 years in prison for this, with the trial being handled in ways that blatantly disfavor the Pussy Riot members.

Several ambassadors from countries including the USA, human rights organizations, musicians, and individuals across the world have protested the treatment these women are receiving. So far to no avail. The ruling is expected to be handed down tomorrow, and many are planning protests with the expectation that it will be against the performers. I greatly respect the women of Pussy Riot for putting their lives on the line to act against the human rights violations they see happening around them. I hope that they will be freed.
